The automotive main computer is an electronic control unit which used in modernised vehicles to alter its computerized modules. Reading real time data from sensors and transmitting output to it's components, the auto motive's computer alter the appropriate operation of the automotive.
The engine control module gather information from various digital units in the motor vehicle such as the crankshaft and line of fuel sensors to cleverly compute information like fuel system, exhaust, intake and some other components to determind and alter the operating state of the transmission, engine system like the air bags, the ignition/injection timing, the lighting control etc.
A typical illustration is the wheel speed detector which detects the speed of the wheel and transmits the information to the engine control module. Using this infrastructure, instead of handing out messages to number of modules from one detector, the messages would be delivered by the ECM to all the components that use this information such as the speedometer, ABS, suspension system etc.
A vehicle that was built with automobile's computer will also outfit OnBoard Diagnostics (OBD) port to enable driver or officials to connect diagnostic equipment and diagnose the car computer module settings.
The car immobilizer is counter theft infrastructure placed on the vehicle ECU. It forestalls the engine from firing up without applying an accredited key. This mechanism adopts a special chipped key that stores the electronic security pin or simply the passcode. The engine control unit will not activate the consumption of fuel system and the ignition circuit if the code in the key is different then the code stored in the immobilization computer.
Various car makers use different types of ECUs such as the GEM (General Electric Module, BCM (Brake Control Module), ECM (Engine Control Module)) and more. Newer car accommodate several ECUs and due to their increasing complexity, the coding necessitate in configuring or resetting the automotive main computer is becoming more and more challenging to operate.
